Circle L Angus is home to a registered and commercial Black Angus
operation, operated by us, Cory & Kari Lamey, alongside our
family. We are third generation ranchers who are in touch with the
demands and needs of the ranching business and take great
satisfaction in producing high quality Black Angus cattle.
Circle L Angus is located in southwest Montana. After managing and later leasing a ranch for 20+ years in Wise River, Montana, we were blessed with the opportunity to purchase a base ranch and relocate to the Horse Prairie Valley near Grant, Montana in the spring of 2023.
It was in the late 1980's when we were able to purchase our first registered Angus cattle. In 2001, we began to expand our registered cowherd by selecting a few top donor prospects from these proven cow families: Sinclair Lady 4465, Sitz Everelda Entense 1905, Stevenson Enchantress 16A, BT Nellie 286K, Leachman Lass 5008, and Davis Blackbird 558H. Later we acquired JVC Altune of Conanga 803, a full sister to Conneally Onward, and CCA Countess 061, a full sister to Tombstone. We have continued to build upon these legendary maternal lines by breeding to industry-leading sires, enabling them to have our first annual production sale in 2007.
Over the years we have gotten to know the brisket disease and PAP-testing expert, Dr. Tim Holt, DVM. Since 2010, we have felt very fortunate to have Dr. Holt come and PAP test our cattle, who has provided reliable PAP data and invaluable knowledge to our operation. Our cattle currently range from 5,750 feet in elevation to 8,500 feet on the summer mountain ranges. They are required to perform in a harsh environment and at high altitude.
We also run a commercial division which serves as a testing ground for the seedstock we are producing. While we do emphasize producing high altitude genetics, it's important for us to do so by using a balanced-trait breeding approach. We understand firsthand the desire to produce uniform, heavily muscled, soggy calves that bring top dollar and replacement females that create a lasting legacy through maternal power, exceptional structure and udders, and good fertility.
The continued confidence our customers have in our program is certainly valued and the long-standing relationships we have acquired through the cattle business are a blessing.
Our Circle L crew would like to warmly welcome you to attend our Annual Production Sale the Fourth Monday in February, as well as welcome you to the ranch for our lunch stop on the Montana Angus Tour being held on October 1, 2025. If you have any questions or wish to talk cattle, please do not hesitate to contact us!
